dc.description The thirteenth American Indian Heritage Month poster. In recognition of the "Month of the American Indian Heritage".” The Great Gluscabe – From the sacred mountain Katahdin” Stretches his head toward the rising sun, his feet toward the setting of the sun; the right hand pointing north and the left hand to the south. He saw the land, the sea; mountains, lakes, rivers, the motion of the waters; he saw fishes, beasts, and animals, and in the air birds. In the east he saw night approaching. Gluscabe taught to be in harmony with the creatures of Mother Earth. To live by conservation of the bounty. To always consider the consequences of our actions today and the effects they will have in the future on the seventh generation. The Penobscot youth sits among the ancestor (Pamola) spirits on a vision quest. He hopes to be worthy of this people. “The people of the Dawn.”He remembers the legend that we were born from the back of the ash tree. American Indian Heritage Month is sponsored by the USDA, Soil Conservation Service, in association with the Ohio Valley RC&D Council and the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service. en_US
